Lions release Joique Bell

Save $2.5 million in cap space

Joique Bell predicted a bounce-back season for himself this fall after battling injuries much of last year. If that’s going to happen now, it won’t be with the Detroit Lions.

The Lions cut Bell today, saving $2.5 million in cap space and saying good-bye to one of their best rags-to-riches stories.

Nerdy Football Analysis: Bell was coming off Achilles and knee injuries in 2014 and struggled to gain any consistency rushing for just 311 yards and scoring four touchdowns. The Lions will move forward with Ameer Abdullah, Theo Riddick and Zach Zenner in the backfield.
