Dalvin Cook, bright spot in Vikings loss

Vikings RB on the rise

RB Dalvin Cook: Cook broke arm tackles on his way to picking up 33 yards on three consecutive carries against the Seahawks, showing off his combination of power and elusiveness once he finds a seam. Cook’s production came behind a patchwork offensive line that expects to return two of its starters – Alex Boone and Riley Reiff – for the next preseason game on Aug. 27. (Minneapolis Star Tribune)

Nerdy Football Analysis: Cook’s averaged draft position has been on the rise over the last week and half after seeing extensive action with the first team offense through two pre-season games. With an ADP of 3.09 (RB16) you’ll need to consider him in Round 3 if you’re drafting this weekend.

InjuryLatavius Murray “behind the 8-ball” because of injury

With rookie Dalvin Cook looking good, Latavius Murray is behind in the race to be the Vikings’ starting running back. Following March 22 surgery on his right ankle, Murray sat out spring drills and has been on the physically unable to perform list since he was eligible July 24 to participate in his first practice at training camp.

Nerdy Football Analysis: “It’s very frustrating to not be a part of what the guys got going on,” Murray said Monday. “I know I’m behind the 8-ball. That’s the most frustrating part.”

Murray has never exactly been the prototypical workhorse back and Cook is running the majority of plays with the first team. Cook himself is reluctant to say he’s the leading candidate to replace Adrian Peterson, but he makes sense as the first Vikings Rb off the board in fantasy drafts.

Vikings add WR Michael Floyd

One-year deal, $1.5 million

Receiver Michael Floyd has signed with the Vikings, an NFL source confirmed.

The deal is a one-year contract worth $1.5 million with as much as $6 million in incentives. (Minneapolis Star Tribune)

Nerdy Football Analysis: Floyd was waived by the Cardinals late last season for driving under the influence, picked up by the Patriots then became a free agent this off-season. Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen sit atop the Vikings depth chart, which gives Floyd an opportunity to battle for playing time with Laquon Treadwell and Jarius Wright.
