Zeke suspension upheld, will play Week 1

Fantasy Football, NFL News

This saga isn’t over

Arbitrator Harold Henderson has upheld the six-game suspension for Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott on Tuesday, a source told ESPN’s Chris Mortensen.

Despite the suspension being upheld, Elliott is still eligible to play in the team’s season opener Sunday against the New York Giants. (ESPN)

Nerdy Football Analysis: Elliots’s 6-game suspension remains but he will suit up Week 1 against the Giants because the ruling came after 4 pm ET. It remains to be seen whether or not he will be available for Week 2 or beyond as the next ruling in the case should come late Friday.

Veteran kicker refusing to rework contract

Oakland has asked Sebastian Janikowski to rework his contract, which calls for him to make $4 million in the final season of his deal, according to a source familiar with the situation. Janikowski so far has declined. (ESPN)

Nerdy Football Analysis: Mike Nugent, Josh Lambo and Marshall Koehn all worked out for the Raiders on Monday, a source told ESPN’s Field Yates. All three kickers lost position battles over the weekend. It may be a god idea to avoid the veteran kicker in drafts leading up to Week 1.

Zeke to know Week 1 fate by Monday?

Appeals officer under pressure to make a decision

Harold Henderson, the appeals officer in the Ezekiel Elliott hearing, is under pressure to have a decision by Monday, per source. (ESPN)

Nerdy Football Analysis: Barring a complete removal of Elliott’s six-game suspension, this is trending toward a prolonged court battle in which he plays out the 2016 season in the same way Tom Brady did in 2015 while his case was in limbo. The league usually doles out discipline no later than Tuesday during the season so teams can plan their week, and that will probably be the deadline here. Owners can’t feel secure they’ll have Zeke in Week 1, but the odds of it happening seem to be getting stronger.

InjuryAnkle injury

Mike Mularkey said Titans had a great week of practice. Eric Decker (ankle) and Harry Douglas (knee) won’t play Sunday. Mularkey not willing to commit to DeMarco Murray playing just yet. Tajae Sharpe will play. (ESPN)

Nerdy Football Analysis: Decker missed practice Friday and won’t play on Sunday against the Bears. RB DeMarco may also sit with a hamstring injury. A decision on his availability will be made on Saturday.

Boldin has change of heart, retires from NFL

Fantasy Football, NFL News

Veteran WR calls is quits

Football has always been a priority for Anquan Boldin. But after 14 seasons, more than 200 games and nearly 14,000 yards receiving, the veteran wide receiver now feels a higher calling, which is why he left the Buffalo Bills on Sunday after only two weeks with the team and plans to retire. (ESPN)

Nerdy Football Analysis: Boldin signed with the Bills two weeks ago but after a couple key trades that included Sammy Watkins and DB Ronald Darby, the veteran receiver had a change of heart. He reportedly wants to focus on humanitarian and human rights work. His departure leaves the Bills with Jordan Matthews (chest), Zay Jones and Andre Holmes atop the wide receiver depth chart.
