Philly TE expects to see more targets

With defenses paying attention to Jeffery and Smith on the outside, Ertz believes he’ll have more room to work in the middle of the field.

“I’ll probably have more targets with Torrey and Alshon,” Ertz said, via Philly.com. “I think that’s the reason you bring in those guys because [defenses] are not able to focus primarily on one area of the field, with where in the past … since [Jeremy] Maclin left, we’ve been an inside-the-numbers team.”

Nerdy Football Analysis: Philadelphia focused on retooling their passing game this offseason and they look primed to improve in 2017. Zach Ertz, Alshon Jeffery and even Torrey Smith should all benefit from the Eagles’ pass heavy offense (PHI finished with sixth most passing attempts in 2016) as Carson Wentz continues to get better in his second season as the starter.

Bills shakeup wide receiver group

The Eagles made a shocking move on Friday, trading away wide receiver Jordan Matthews and a third-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft to the Buffalo Bills for cornerback Ronald Darby, the team announced Friday. (NJ.com)

Nerdy Football Analysis: The Bills have made significant changes to the wide receiver group over the last few days by acquiring Anquan Boldin, Mathews and trading star Sammy Watkins to the Rams. The Eagles have been talking up Nelson Agholor all pre-season and now it seems he’s in line for the starting slot position with Alshon Jeffery and Torrey Smith on the outside. Matthews should step into the starting lineup in Buffalo and will see boost in fantasy value.

Chicago revamping receiving corps

The Bears’ continued attempts to energize a reshuffling offense continued Thursday when the team agreed to a one-year contract with veteran receiver Victor Cruz. (Chicago Tribune)

Nerdy Football Analysis: Cruz missed the majority of 2014 and 2015 with various ailments including a serious knee injury. The Bears are revamping their receiving corps after losing Alshon Jeffery to the Eagles and have a number of options including Cameron Meredith, Kevin White, Josh Bellamy, Kendall Wright, Rueben Randle and Markus Wheaton. It won’t be easy for Cruz to make the team.
