NFL Week 10 Waiver Wire: Examining Top Fantasy Football Targets

Fantasy Football
November 8, 2016

The fantasy football waiver wire in Week 10 is quite bare and looking for a sleeper. At this point in the NFL season, the wire is nearing on desperation. But alas, here we are.

It’s been a tough year for many fantasy football players. With the likes of Jamaal Charles and Adrian Peterson out injured since, essentially, the whole season, the bust of drafting Todd Gurley early in the first round and passing on Melvin Gordon in the third round because of his subpar rookie season, there is a lot to regret. So let’s try to move on and find some sleepers while we still can.

There’s no point talking about quarterbacks as top fantasy targets to add with the season well past the halfway point. Besides, there just aren’t many viable options available now that bye weeks are well underway and most fantasy teams carry two quarterbacks on a roster. Instead, we’ll take a look at the other offensive positions with the top options available in Yahoo fantasy leagues.

Each player listed below is available in over 50 percent of Yahoo leagues as of Monday night, so hopefully they’re still available by the time you finish reading and put in a waiver claim.

Chris Ivory, RB, Jacksonville Jaguars

This is really scrapping the bottom of the barrel, but there are literally no options at the running back position that are owned in less than 50 percent of Yahoo leagues who have legitimate upside for the rest of the season.

Ivory is a decent running back when given the chance and showed his fantasy worth in Week 9 against the Kansas City Chiefs with 18 carries and 107 yards.

Ivory did lose a fumble during the game, which brought his fantasy point total down to 8.70 points, but that’s still solid production from a player who is finally healthy after starting the season on the sidelines. He’s only owned in 34 percent of Yahoo leagues.

It’s hard to find a running back that isn’t involved in a committee who won’t see a lot of carries, and while Ivory’s production in Week 9 could be a fluke, he had 18 carries. That’s the same amount of carries that Ezekiel Elliott had for the Dallas Cowboys this past week and four more carries than Titans running back DeMarco Murray had as well.

Rishard Matthews, WR, Tennessee Titans

Rishard Matthews could, legitimately, have a future in your lineup as a WR2/WR3 receiver if Marcus Mariota keeps looking his way in the red zone.

Matthews has flown under the radar this season but has quietly put up some decent fantasy numbers, especially in Week 9. With six catches for 63 yards and two scores, Matthews scored an impressive 18.30 points in fantasy against the San Diego Chargers. He is owned in 30 percent of Yahoo leagues, and he could be a steal.

This isn’t the first time that Matthews has put up some decent numbers, however. In Week 8, he scored 9.80 fantasy points, and in Week 6, he scored 13.00. In fact, in the past six weeks, Matthews has only scored less than 8.20 fantasy points once, and that came against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 7 in a game where he still had seven targets.

Matthews is no Julio Jones or a receiver who can win a matchup all by himself, but he can be a solid option in your lineup slot to put you over the edge heading into a late season playoff-push.

Lance Kendricks, TE, Los Angeles Rams

The tight end market is thin on the waiver wire, and Lance Kendricks is the only legitimate, viable option at the moment.

Owned in 15 percent of Yahoo leagues, it would be a surprise if he wasn’t available to put a waiver claim on.

Kendricks actually had a decent game against the Carolina Panthers in Week 9, scoring 9.00 points on seven catches for 90 yards. He has only found the end zone once this season, but don’t let that shy you away from picking him up because he sees a lot of volume in a bad Rams offense. He could’ve easily had a touchdown if he didn’t drop a pass in the end zone last week.

All in all, Kendricks has had 29 targets over his last three outings, scoring at least 5.50 in each game during that span. It’s nothing to get really excited about, but his targets are an eye-opener when you consider that he’s had more opportunities for touches than Rob Gronkowski and Travis Kelce during that same span.
