D’Andre Swift lobbies for AD’s return

Soon-to-be 36-year-old set to hit free agency

D’Andre Swift is coming off a promising rookie season in Detroit. The second-round RB ran for 511 yards and averaged an impressive 4.6 yards per carry while also proving himself as a receiver, catching 46 passes out of the backfield. Swift is primed for a bigger role in 2021 under new head coach Dan Campbell and offensive coordinator Anthony Lynn. But Swift still wants the veteran presence of Adrian Peterson with him in the Lions backfield.

“I definitely want him back,” Swift told CBS Sports while adding he “picked (Peterson’s) brain” throughout his rookie year. (USA TODAY)

Nerdy Football Analysis: Campbell and Lynn likely view Swift in the same kind of light as Alvin Kamara, but the smash-mouth mentality it appears they hope to use in Detroit makes it reasonable to keep a physical back like Peterson around. Whether Peterson wants to remain in Detroit is another story, but the combination of his age and reputation as an early-down grinder only figure to limit his options on the open market.
