QB competition brewing as Jets look to settle on best option
Though veteran Josh McCown still spent most of Monday’s practice with the first team, 22-year-old Christian Hackenberg received his most reps with the top unit in training camp. Hackenberg, who took 21 overall reps, had six opportunities with the first team, and overall, went 10-of-21 with one touchdown. (New York Post)
Nerdy Football Analysis: This means there could be a real QB competition brewing in New Jersey. Mike Maccagnan said yesterday on Michael Kay’s radio show that the team is not tanking, but the jury’s still out on how effective either the journeyman McCown or the very raw Hackenberg will be without the requisite offensive weapons. WR Quincy Enunwa was just lost for the season with bulging disk in his neck. None of the Jets QBs are worth more than desperation wire fodder.
