Bengals release Giovani Bernard

Fantasy Football, NFL News
April 7, 2021

Injury Was asked to take a pay cut 2 weeks into free agency

Giovani Bernard asked for his release and the #Bengals granted it, source says. The team had asked him to take a pay cut two weeks into free agency, which hurt his chances of landing elsewhere. But he’s expected to find a new gig soon. (Mike Garafolo on Twitter)

Nerdy Football Analysis: Gio has played for the Bengals since being drafted in 2013. He’s largely played behind Joe Mixon the last three seasons which has limited his fantasy value. He’ll likely land a backup gig somewhere else but will struggle to have value on a weekly basis. The Bengals have Trayveon Williams and Samaje Perine behind Mixon heading into the draft.

Jets receive 2021 6th-round pick and 2bd- and 4th-round picks in 2022

Filed to ESPN: Jets trading QB Sam Darnold to the Carolina Panthers for a 2021 sixth-round pick and second- and fourth-round picks in 2022, per sources. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

Nerdy Football Analysis: The Panthers have been looking to upgrade their quarterback position but it’s fair to question how much of an upgrade Darnold is over Teddy Bridgewater who has two years left on his contract. While Darnold is likely the Week 1 starter in Carolina, this trade doesn’t move the needle for the likes of Christian McCaffrey, D.J. Moore or Robby Anderson. The Jets own the No.2 pick in this year’s draft and will taking a quarterback.

Nerdy Football Analysis: AFC teams will host the NFC in the extra game this season with the NFC hosting AFC teams in 2022. Fantasy commissioners will need to adjust their league schedule accordingly but ultimately another week of fantasy football is a good thing.

One-year deal

The #Ravens are signing free agent WR Sammy Watkins and giving him a 1-year deal worth $6M ?” with $5M fully guaranteed, source said. Watkins lands and Baltimore has its weapon. (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)

Nerdy Football Analysis: The former Chief visited the Colts but when T.Y. Hilton returned to Indianapolis, the Ravens became the only viable option. Watkins has played well when healthy but has long been a headache for fantasy owners due to his soft tissue injuries. He’ll start the season in Baltimore as a risky WR4 given the run-heavy nature of the Ravens attack.

Miami now picking at No.6

Eagles traded their sixth to the Dolphins for No. 12 and their 2022 first-round pick. Teams also swapped mid-round picks — Eagles’ pick 156 for No. 123. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

Nerdy Football Analysis: The Dolphins move back into top 6 after they acquired pick No.12 in their trade with the 49ers. The Eagles pick up a first-round pick next year for their trouble. With these moves it seems Miami will be pressing forward with Tua Tagovailoa and are in a good position to draft an offensive playmaker at No.6
