C.J. Spiller won't play Week 1

InjuryKnee injury sidelines Saints RB

Saints RB CJ Spiller (knee) will not play in Week 1, I’m told, as he recovers from that minor knee surgery. Likely good to go after that. (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)

Nerdy Football Analysis: This contradicts reports we heard from various outlets and analysts over the last two weeks, saying Spiller was on track to play Week 1. Spiller had arthroscopic knee surgery on 8/14. His absence from the lineup means Khiry Robinson, Tim Hightower or Marcus Murphy could see a few extra snaps. Mark Ingram is locked in as Week 1 RB1.

Dolphins Add Jonas Gray To Practice Squad

NFL News
September 8, 2015

Former Patriots running back Jonas Gray will sign with the Dolphins’ practice squad, agent Sean Stellato tells Adam Schefter of ESPN.com (on Twitter). Gray had a stint on Miami’s taxi squad previously in his career.

Gray’s release on September 5th came as a surprise to many as he figured to be a part of the Patriots’ run game this season. He emerged as potential starter during his 201 yard and four touchdown performance against the Colts in the regular season, but he was leapfrogged by LeGarrette Blount when the power back ran for 148 yards and three touchdowns of his own against the Colts in the AFC Championship game.

Gray was said to have drawn interest from several teams after he was cut loose and one of those clubs was the Titans. Instead of going to Tennessee, he’ll be staying put in the AFC East as he tries to make the Dolphins’ gameday roster.

Giants Release Asa Jackson, Louis Nix Fails Physical

NFL News
September 8, 2015

A pair of recent Giants pickups have been shown the door just days after being claimed off waivers. Cornerback Asa Jackson has been cut loose two days after signing, Dan Graziano of ESPN.com tweets. Meanwhile, defensive tackle Louis Nix has failed his physical, which means that he’ll be exposed to waivers once more.

Jackson, 25, saw his first stretch of extended playing time on defense last season in Baltimore, when the Ravens’ secondary was decimated by injuries. Jackson started six games and allowed a quarterback rating of 106.6 on passes thrown into his coverage, per Pro Football Focus.

As for Nix, he was selected in the third round of the 2014 draft by the Texans, but never saw regular season action for the team, having spent the majority of his rookie campaign on injured reserve. In the opinion of the Giants, he’s not 100% healthy at this time either.
