Cardinals Cut Matt Shaughnessy

NFL News
September 5, 2015

Despite re-signing him to a two-year deal prior to last season, the Cardinals cut Matt Shaughnessy in trimming their roster to 53 players.

Shaughnessy started 19 games for the Cardinals since re-signing with the team on a two-year deal this offseason. He missed eight games with a knee injury last season but at 29 should still be attractive to edge defender-needy teams.

The defensive end/outside linebacker, depending on scheme, has rated consistently as a plus run defender and a lower-quality pass-rusher.

The Raiders selected Shaughnessy in the third round of the 2009 draft, and the Cardinals initially signed him in 2013.
