Vernon Davis traded to Broncos in draft pick deal

49ers acquire sixth-rounders in 2016 & 2017

The Broncos acquired San Francisco tight end Vernon Davis on Monday, sending sixth-round picks (2016 & 2017) to the 49ers in return. Denver will also receive San Francisco’s seventh-rounder in 2016. (Denver Post)

Nerdy Football Analysis: It’s unclear what Davis’ role will be on a team that’s so focused on running the ball and playing stifling defense, but it’s obvious that Davis wasn’t happy in San Fran. This essentially represents a salary dump for the struggling Niners, clearing the remaining $2.33 million on Davis’ deal. The trading deadline is Tuesday at 2 p.m., and the Broncos have been linked to the Cleveland Browns, who are shopping left tackle Joe Thomas and center Alex Mack. If they bolster up that line and teams start becoming complacent against Peyton Manning, Davis might just become a viable TE in fantasy.
