Trevor Siemian, Emmanuel Sanders, Demaryius Thomas' Post-Week 3 Fantasy Advice

Fantasy Football
September 25, 2016

Denver Broncos quarterback Trevor Siemian had the best game of his young NFL career on Sunday in a 29-17 win over the Cincinnati Bengals, and that was good news to fantasy football owners who started Demaryius Thomas or Emmanuel Sanders.

Siemian threw for 312 yards and four touchdowns, and Thomas and Sanders both eclipsed the century mark in receiving yardage. To put their performances in perspective, the wideouts entered Week 3 with 138 and 88 yards, respectively.

Below is a fantasy outlook for all three players in the weeks ahead.

Trevor Siemian

It’s a bit too early to begin talking about Siemian as anything more than a QB2. While the second-year passer is showing some progress, expecting him to register 300-plus yards every week is unrealistic.

Siemian‘s numbers from Sunday are impressive but don’t offer a fully accurate representation of his effort. On a few occasions, Bengals defenders dropped easy interceptions that could’ve changed the game, and an interception or two would’ve knocked a few points off his fantasy output.

For owners scrambling to find quarterback help, Siemian might be a worthwhile target. Barring injury, there’s little chance he’ll lose the starting job this year, which carries some value.

Emmanuel Sanders

In the first two weeks, the Broncos were a bit hesitant to let Siemian throw the ball farther down the field. That wasn’t the case on Sunday, as he and Sanders hooked up for a 41-yard pass in the second quarter.

Fantasy owners may have been on the verge of giving up on Sanders as a regular starter. He offered little value through the first two weeks, and his second half of the 2015 season was a mixed bag in terms of production.

Especially if Siemian continues to find success with longer throws, Sanders will firmly be in WR2 territory. While Thomas will almost certainly command the most targets in the passing game, being Siemian‘s second option will offer Sanders ample opportunity to continue posting strong numbers on a weekly basis.

Demaryius Thomas

Even after his underwhelming start to the season, Thomas was still a must-start in standard leagues. Sunday provided the assurance owners needed to continue putting their faith in the veteran wideout.

In the likely event that Siemian‘s passing stats slip a bit compared to Week 3, that shouldn’t put a massive dent in Thomas’ fantasy potential. As is the case with Sanders, the Broncos’ lack of depth in the passing game will mean Thomas is afforded plenty of targets.

With more showings like his performance on Sunday, the 28-year-old will start climbing back into WR1 territory following his disappointing 2015 campaign.
