T.J. Yeldon's Updated Fantasy Outlook After Chris Ivory Is Ruled Out in Week 1

Jacksonville Jaguars running back Chris Ivory will miss Sunday’s game against the Green Bay Packers due to a “general medical issue,” per John Oehser of the team’s official website.

Ivory, 28, had been listed as questionable due to a calf injury. T.J. Yeldon should see the bulk of the work with Ivory out of the lineup.

Yeldon, in his second season out of Alabama, rushed for 740 yards and two touchdowns as a rookie. He and Ivory were expected to split the load this season, with the latter coming off a 1,000-yard campaign with the New York Jets.

Should Ivory be forced to miss extended time, Yeldon will become an every-week starter as the primary ball-carrier. He was by no means bad last season, averaging four yards per carry as part of a Jacksonville offense constantly playing from behind.

His 36 receptions were a pleasant surprise, and while Ivory’s signing hurt his value, he probably would have entered 2016 as a clear-cut starter in most leagues. The Jags have made strides on both sides of the ball during the offseason, so Yeldon should see more consistent work.

There isn’t much you can do now, as he’s owned in nearly every league, but it’s a situation worth monitoring. One big week might give Yeldon the starting status going forward. At the least, he’s now a clear-cut RB2 in every format and a potential RB1 in deeper leagues for Week 1.
