WR says he’s “in a different space right now”

Sammy Watkins said he’s considering many options – including one where he would sit out the 2020 season – as he contemplates his future with the Kansas City Chiefs.

“If it suits me and my family and [meets] my needs, for sure. But I’m really in a different space right now. I don’t know what I’m going to do. If we win it, I might chill out. I might sit out a year. You just never know. Not retiring, but I might just want to rest up and chill. I don’t know,” Watkins said. (ESPN – Adam Teicher)

Nerdy Football Analysis: It’s hard to believe Watkins would walk away from the $14 million is scheduled to make in 2020 (assuming Kansas City doesn’t choose to cut him), but it’s also not improbable. Injuries have dogged him throughout his career, so a year away from the game to do everything possible to get right might be just what he needs. If Watkins decides to sit in 2020, Mecole Hardman’s fantasy stock would rise dramatically.
