Injury Ryan Mathews placed on IR

With Ryan Mathews joining fellow running backs Wendell Smallwood and Kenjon Barner on injured reserve, the Eagles have just two running backs on their roster: Darren Sproles and Byron Marshall. Marshall, an undrafted rookie out of Oregon, was promoted from the practice squad two weeks ago after Smallwood was placed on IR with a knee injury. “Right now, the plan is (to primarily use) Darren,” Pederson said. “But for sure we’ll see a little more of (Marshall) on first and second down, and even some third-down situations. Nerdy Football Analysis: With Ryan Mathews (back) out, the Eagles will need to rely on Bryon Marshall to complement Darren Sproles in the backfield Sunday. The rookie had 11 touches last week and could see a few more against the Cowboys. Marshall may not have a ton of upside but he may become a nice backup option if your typical starter is in danger of sitting out this weekend. Meanwhile, Ryan Mathews may become a salary cap casualty after the season despite scoring nine touchdowns on 776 total yards in 2016.
