Lions fine with Kerryon Johnson’s puny workload

Patricia thinks rookie RB getting 20 of 55 snaps is a “good amount”

Kerryon Johnson played just 20 of 55 offensive snaps in the Lions’ 26-24 loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, five fewer than third-down back Theo Riddick and six more than veteran LeGarrette Blount, but the Lions HC isn’t bothered. “I think we have a lot of really good running backs and I think we try to use them appropriately,” Patricia said at his Monday news conference. “I think Kerryon played a significant amount of the game. He played 20 snaps of 55, that’s a good amount. Plus, we have two other running backs, plus we have two-minute drives and other two-minute personnel packages and things like that. There was quite a bit of reps in there for Kerryon.” (Detroit Free Press)

Nerdy Football Analysis: Kerryon Johnson probably won’t be a bell cow anytime soon, and based on Patricia’s super “Belichick-ey” statement here it appears his upside will be limited to RB3/flex the remainder of the season. It’s a shame, because he’s been the team’s most effective back through four games.
