InjurySuffered torn ACL, minor cartilage damage in Week 1 loss

Chargers coach Mike McCoy confirmed that receiver Keenan Allen suffered an ACL tear in his right knee and is done for the year after the team received results from an MRI on Monday.

The Chargers will place Allen on injured reserve, and use his vacant roster spot to activate rookie defensive end Joey Bosa from the exempt list.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Allen also suffered some minor cartilage damage in addition to the ACL tear. (ESPN)

Nerdy Football Analysis: Less than one year after suffering a lacerated kidney, Allen is getting hit with another major injury. While Antonio Gates and Danny Woodhead should be locked into their respective TE1 and high-end RB2 designations in PPR leagues with the likely bump in volume they are about to receive, San Diego will also expand Travis Benjamin’s role. The Chargers also love Tyrell Williams, and he could be the one that ends up replacing Allen as a starter. Williams is worth a speculative add in all leagues.
