Joique Bell still atop depth chart

Lions RB listed as No. 1 — for now

Joique Bell was activated off the physically unable to perform list Monday, and immediately returned to the first-unit offense ahead of Ameer Abdullah, Zach Zenner, Theo Riddick and George Winn. He was listed first on the depth chart, too, though he is not expected to play in Thursday’s preseason finale against Buffalo (Mlive.com)

Nerdy Football Analysis: Bell rushed 223 times for a career-best 860 yards and a team-best seven touchdowns in 2015, eclipsing Reggie Bush (now with San Fran) as the team’s primary tailback. A year later, Bell remains in that role to open this season despite some promising early returns from the talented but raw Abdullah and Zenner — a former standout at South Dakota State. Bell looks like a good bet for consistent numbers over the first half of the season, with Abdullah getting more early-down work as the season progresses.
