Jeremy Langford eyeing three-down role

Operated as featured back in Bears’ Week 2 preseason game

Jeremy Langford re-emphasized Thursday that he wants to be a three-down back, regardless of the Bears’ stated preference of using a running back-by-committee approach.

“I think I’m definitely getting better at that (being a complete back),” Langford said. “Just really playing through contact and catching the ball when I get the opportunity to do so. And just showing my pass-blocking ability, which I haven’t had the chance that much in the preseason so far. I think I’m making strides toward that.” (ESPN)

Nerdy Football Analysis: Langford worried some folks by showing up in a walking boot Tuesday but fully participated in practice Thursday. The second-year back consistently generated yards after contact against the Patriots last weekend after ranking last in that category among qualified runners last year – so perhaps he can buck the usual John Fox RBBC after all. His biggest issue to high-end RB2 status will be his offensive line, however. Owners should draft him as a low-end RB2 just to be on the safe side.
