Jared Goff undergoes thumb surgery

Injury Unlikely to play Week 17

Rams’ QB Jared Goff underwent surgery today on his broken right thumb in LA and is unlikely to play Sunday vs. Arizona, sources tell ESPN. If he can’t play Sunday, Goff could return for the playoffs if Rams advance there. John Wolford is Goff’s backup and now in line to start. (ESPN – Adam Schefter)

Nerdy Football Analysis: Goff hasn’t struggled for long stretches of this season, so it’s hard to imagine he’d be overly effective in the off chance he plays in Week 17. Even if he is cleared in time for a potential playoff – which is not a given for the Rams – it’s hard to be overly excited about Cooper Kupp or Robert Woods either. Wolford enjoyed success in the AAF last year but obviously needs to be viewed as a downgrade until he proves otherwise.
