Eric Decker announces retirement

Revolving door continues for New England WRs

Veteran wide receiver Eric Decker, who had signed a one-year contract with the New England Patriots on Aug. 3, announced his retirement on Instagram Sunday afternoon. Decker appeared to be on the roster bubble despite the Patriots’ needs at receiver; he didn’t play in the first half of Friday’s preseason loss to the Carolina Panthers. (ESPN)

Nerdy Football Analysis: The wide receiver group in New England has been a revolving door as the Patriots have said goodbye to Jordan Matthews, Malcolm Mitchell and Kenny Britt earlier this off-season. With Decker headed toward retirement, Julian Edelman, Chris Hogan, Phillip Dorsett and Cordarrelle Patterson remain the top four options with Edelman severing a four-game suspension.
