Nerdy Football Analysis: It does not sound as if Mitchell is in much danger of missing Week 9 against the Cardinals. The rookie is the unquestioned early-down back for HC Kyle Shanahan and should remain that way for the foreseeable future, although Jeff Wilson is expected to return to practice this week. PFF noted that 135 of Mitchell’s 137 yards in Week 8 came after contact, which speaks to how well he is running at the moment. After tough upcoming games against the Cardinals and Rams, few running backs have a more favorable schedule than Mitchell the rest of the way.
