InjurySurgery required

Saints’ QB Drew Brees is expected to undergo thumb surgery as early as today that would be expected to sideline him approximately 6 weeks, per leagues sources. If the Saints decide to put Drew Brees on IR for the thumb surgery that is required, he would be unable to practice for six weeks and would to miss eight games. Saints also could not place him on IR and bring him back when ready. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

Nerdy Football Analysis: We got a sense yesterday when the injury occurred that Brees was going to miss some time. He couldn’t grip the football and left the game with a hard cast on his thumb. Teddy Bridgewater will take over as the starting quarterback while Brees is out. This is a downgrade for all the Saints skill players including Alvin Kamara, Michael Thomas and Jared Cook. Bridgewater checks in as a middling QB2.
