Damien Williams named starter for TNF; Byron Maxwell benched
Byron Maxwell, who has struggled in three games with the Dolphins, has been demoted, the Miami Herald first reported. Tony Lippett, who has not gotten a snap on defense this season, will start at corner against the Bengals. Maxwell will play off the bench.
Damien Williams will start for Arian Foster. Laremy Tunsil will slide from guard to left tackle; Billy Turner will start at left guard. Kraig Urbik will be the Dolphins’ center. (Miami Herald)
Nerdy Football Analysis: Maxwell is one of seven starters who have either been demoted or are injured. He tends to struggle in off coverage and that is exactly what he has been asked to do too much in Miami. As for the running back situation, it has become clear new HC Adam Gase does not really care/trust any of his options. So while Williams will get the start, he may be sharing the backfield with three other players. He’s worth an add in deep leagues, but he’s a Hail Mary start at best.
