Dolphins in rebuild mode
New England Patriots defensive play-caller Brian Flores will lead the Miami Dolphins into a new era as their head coach, the team announced Monday. He will replace Adam Gase, who was fired on Dec. 31. The New York Jets hired Gase as head coach 12 days later.
Flores takes over a team that seems headed for somewhat of a rebuild as owner Stephen Ross alluded to after firing Gase. (ESPN)
Nerdy Football Analysis: This deal has been in the works for some time but couldn’t be announced until the Patriots run in the playoffs was complete. Flores has been the de-facto defensive coordinator for New England this season. The Dolphins will be in rebuild mode and are expected to move on from quarterback Ryan Tannehill and don’t project to make any big moves in free agency.
