Steelers fail to contain Pats' new TE tandem

Gronkowski and Chandler combine for four TDs in season opener

As the story goes, the Steelers came to Gillette Stadium last night with this grand plan to stop Rob Gronkowski. They figured stuffing the all-world tight end was the key to beating the Patriots. So they were going to jam him, hit him, and slug him silly at the line. Really? The only ones looking silly last night were the Men of Steel, who looked more like the Men of Jello whenever they came anywhere near Gronk, or his sidekick, Scott Chandler. The Patriots’ new tight end tandem was unveiled for the first time, and it was every bit as awesome as most people had imagined during the Pats’ 28-21 opening-night victory. (Boston Herald)

Nerdy Football Analysis: It’d be unreasonable to expect Aaron Hernandez-type numbers from Chandler, as he lacks the raw athleticism of the former Patriot. Even a 50-reception, 500-yard campaign is probably a stretch. But we know that Tom Brady likes targetting his tight ends in the red zone. An eight-touchdown season is not out of the realm of possibility for Chandler if he stays healthy.
