Derrick Henry taking control of Titans’ backfield

It was uncertain exactly when the time would come, but we are likely witnessing the passing of the Tennessee Titans’ running back torch from DeMarco Murray to Derrick Henry. As the Heisman-winning duo of Marcus Mariota and Henry marched past the Kansas City Chiefs last Saturday, it became clearer that this is the present and the future at the same time.

“He has the ability to lead the league in rushing. I think he has the ability to be the league MVP. The sky is the limit. We’re scratching the surface in what he can do. The more opportunities he gets, the better he gets. I have no question that Derrick can be a 1,500-1,800-yard type of running back when he gets the opportunities,” former Oilers/Titans running back Eddie George said. (ESPN – Cameron Wolfe)

Nerdy Football Analysis: It’s not hard to see Henry has been the best back in Tennessee this season, but too much has been made of the former’s fourth-quarter production and effectiveness. Of his 390 rushing yards in the fourth quarter, 147 have come on same inside-fake, outside toss runs to the left side with the game well in hand. With that said, Henry is just the kind of back owners should be able to count on 300-plus carries from for the foreseeable future. If Murray is cut this spring, Henry could very well be a first-round pick in drafts this summer.
