New OC intends to use RB like former HC did
OC Byron Leftwich on what he will take from Bruce Arians’ usage of David Johnson: “Everything. I sat shoulder-to-shoulder with (former HC Bruce Arians) every day I was here. There have been a lot of long nights sitting next to him, us nodding off together.” (azcardinals.com – Kyle Odegard)
Nerdy Football Analysis: Using Johnson like Arians did is one thing, but getting the offensive line to block for him and improving the supporting cast are obstacles Leftwich can’t change. Still, any change is probably a good one for Johnson, who was too often forced to run in between the tackles under former OC Mike McCoy. Johnson is still unlikely to live up to the top-five draft status he enjoyed this summer, but more creative usage is certainly a step in the right direction.
