Christian McCaffrey could see fewer plays

OC wants to be smarter about overall usage in 2019

Panthers offensive coordinator Norv Turner is “concerned” about the number of touches running back Christian McCaffrey had last season, about 320. That doesn’t mean McCaffrey will be used less. Turner just wants to be smarter about using his star so he’s playing less but perhaps getting more touches. (ESPN – David Newton)

Nerdy Football Analysis: Although the first part of the interview seemed as though Turner wanted to cut back on McCaffrey’s touches, he ended by saying he wants to decrease the amount of plays he is on the field – which makes perfect sense when he missed only 22 plays prior to getting pulled early from a meaningless Week 17 game. While someone like rookie Jordan Scarlett may be able to steal a few snaps from time to time, expect McCaffrey to match and possibly exceed last year’s 326 touches.
