Chris Carson may not share RB workload?

OC suggests team won’t force touches to Rashaad Penny

All indications are that Chris Carson will be the starter, but Seahawks OC Brian Schottenheimer said Thursday that he wants to get all the running back some reps in Sunday’s opener at Denver. He later said some of that playing time could come on special teams and not on offense. Here was part of Schottenheimer’s response when asked how first-round pick Rashaad Penny will be worked in assuming Carson starts: “We don’t necessarily have, ‘OK, gotta get this guy so many carries, gotta get this guy so many touches.’ We’ll just kind of see how the flow of the game goes. You’re going to see them all, which is cool.” (ESPN – Brady Henderson)

Nerdy Football Analysis: Coaches are masters of saying a lot without saying anything at all, and that feels like what is happening here. It sounds as if Carson starts out “hot” against Denver, he’ll be given a chance to see 15-plus touches. C.J. Prosise will almost certainly see the bulk of the work on passing downs. Given the matchup and uncertainty of workload, it makes sense to sit Carson this week if you have the depth to do so.
