Charles still not ready for heavy workload

HC impressed with RB in first extensive action

While Chiefs HC Andy Reid noted Monday that what it was good to have Jamaal Charles back “in all areas,” Spencer Ware still out-touched Charles 26 to 11 and logged more snaps, 40 to 15, an indication the Chiefs are still cautious with their star as he works his way back from a second torn ACL.

“Is he ready to carry it every down? I don’t think that’s where we’re at right this minute. But he got more carries than he did against Pittsburgh, and his attitude – from the get go – has been give me the ball, I want to play. The attitude is awesome,” Reid said of Charles. (Kansas City Star)

Nerdy Football Analysis: It has been made very clear Ware is going to continue having a role, but his time as the lead back in the Chiefs’ backfield is likely coming to an end soon. Charles is probably going to take over the lead role sometime in the next couple of weeks, making now a great buy-low opportunity for the 29-year-old back and a good time to see what Ware’s trade value is.
