Cowboys WR Dez Bryant has a broken fifth metatarsal in his right foot, according to a source. The injury is known as a Jones fracture and requires surgery to correct. He is scheduled to have the operation on Tuesday.

That’s the same injury as Thunder star Kevin Durant, who had to have three surgeries and was shut down for the season last year.

Bryant’s last play of Sunday’s game came in the first minute of the fourth quarter when he caught a pass on a crossing route. (Dallas Morning News)

Nerdy Football Analysis: We already reported Bryant is likely out 4-6 weeks, but owners need to pray the surgery corrects the problem. A Jones fracture is the same injury that forced the Oklahoma City Thunder to shut down star Kevin Durant this past season and the same ailment that caused the Bengals’ Marvin Jones to sit out all of last season. While Week 1 is not a time to panic, Bryant’s owners would be wise to treat this as an injury that could hinder him all season.
