Brandon Marshall, Matt Forte, Quincy Enunwa Post-Week 2 Fantasy Advice

September 15, 2016

The New York Jets jumped out to a 20-10 halftime lead over the Buffalo Bills on Thursday night, but it wasn’t a great start for fantasy football owners who started Matt Forte or Brandon Marshall.

Forte had just 31 yards rushing, though a rushing touchdown helped buoy his point total. Marshall’s three receptions for 73 yards offer some help, but he hasn’t quite reached what was expected of him in Week 2.

Quincy Enunwa was the biggest surprise through the first half with five receptions for 90 yards.

Below is a brief overview of the three players’ respective fantasy values looking past this week.

Brandon Marshall

Marshall is coming off a disappointing Week 1. He caught three passes for 32 yards in New York’s 23-22 defeat to the Cincinnati Bengals. His turnaround in the first half Thursday will cheer up his fantasy owners.

Even if Marshall’s numbers were underwhelming for a second straight week, it wouldn’t have changed his overall forecast. The 32-year-old will continue to be a low-end WR1 based on the number of targets he’ll demand in the passing game.

Marshall had a bit of an injury scare after leaving the game, but he returned in the second half. As long as he’s healthy, the six-time Pro Bowler is a must-start in standard leagues.

Matt Forte

Any panic about Forte’s Week 2 numbers should be tempered.

The long-term concern is that he’s a 30-year-old running back with a lot of wear and tear. He ran for 96 yards on 22 carries in Week 1, so any decline he has this year might not be pronounced enough to hurt his fantasy projections.

The Jets had the 10th-most carries (448) in the league in 2015. So long as the team maintains a similar emphasis on the running game, Forte will continue to be at least a RB2 candidate.

Quincy Enunwa

Enunwa could be a shrewd waiver-wire addition this week, having put together two strong games to start the 2016 season. He piled up 54 yards on seven catches last week.

The third-year wideout was a non-factor last year, and the worry will be how much attention he continues to get in the passing game. Marshall will remain Ryan Fitzpatrick’s favorite target, and Eric Decker isn’t going anywhere. Forte is a capable receiver out of the backfield as well, adding further competition for Enunwa.

It’s too early to begin talking about starting Enunwa—his production hasn’t been that good—but he may be at least worth adding, if only to get ahead of the crowd should his stock continue climbing.
