Two-year extension with Chargers

Antonio Gates wanted to finish his career as a Charger.

It seems now he will.

The tight end and potential future Hall of Famer agreed to terms Wednesday on a two-year extension, a source said. This move was long expected but significant nonetheless, helping to assure a 14th season for the franchise career leader in career receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns.

Nerdy Football Analysis: The 36-year-old tight end is back with San Diego which and should resume his role as TE1 when healthy. Gates missed five games in 2015 and still finished 11th among fantasy tight ends with 630 yards and 5 TDs. With Ladarius Green likely on his way out, expect the Chargers to sign a backup tight end.
