Ameer Abdullah, Joique Bell Post-Week 13 Fantasy Advice

The Detroit Lions running game came up mostly empty once again Thursday in a 27-23 loss to the Green Bay Packers.

The Lions, who have only four rushing touchdowns this season, failed to find the end zone on the ground Thursday. However, it appears as though rookie Ameer Abdullah is taking over the No. 1 running back duties:

He has had double-digit carries in each of the past three weeks, while Joique Bell has had no more than eight. Abdullah has also set career highs in consecutive weeks with 63 yards on the ground against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 12 and 67 against the Packers on Thursday.

Even though he has become the clear go-to guy for Detroit, Abdullah is still nothing more than an RB3 at this point. He has just two total touchdowns and has failed to score in any of the past nine games.

He has a decent matchup against the St. Louis Rams, who allow 111 rushing yards per game, in Week 14. Even so, until Abdullah proves he can score, use him only in larger leagues with flex positions.

Bell, on the other hand, is becoming obsolete:

His opponent at this point doesn’t matter. He’s broken the 50-yard mark only once this season and has not surpassed 25 yards on the ground in the last five weeks.

He did score two weeks ago but had just seven carries in that game. It’s not worth the chance that he may get a goal-line carry, because that is the only way he is going to provide any fantasy points.

If you feel Bell is worth a spot on your roster, keep him on the bench unless Abdullah suffers an injury or injuries have decimated your roster.
