Reunion in Baltimore coming?
The Niners have informed wide receiver Torrey Smith of his forthcoming release, a source confirmed to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter. Smith signed a five-year, $40 million contract with the 49ers in 2015, but his production in San Francisco hasn’t come close to what it was with the Baltimore Ravens. (ESPN)
Nerdy Football Analysis: Smith was going to count $9 million against the salary cap this season and really hasn’t been a factor during his two years in San Francisco. The 49ers have re-signed Jeremy Kerley but will be looking for help at the position this off-season. Now that Steve Smith has retired, perhaps a reunion for Torrey is coming in Baltimore.
