InjuryACL surgery expected soon

Dolphins officially placed quarterback Ryan Tannehill on injured reserve. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

Nerdy Football Analysis: Tannehill is expected to have surgery on his ACL very soon which should allow him enough recovery time to be ready for the 2018 season. Jay Cutler takes over with a clear path to being the starter the entire season. His fantasy value is similar to Tannehill’s as a low-end QB2.

Jay Cutler signs with Dolphins

One-year contract worth $10 M

He’s back: QB Jay Cutler is coming back. Sources say he’s agreed to sign with the Dolphins. (NFL.com – Ian Rapoport)

Nerdy Football Analysis: Ryan Tannehill will almost certainly miss half the season – if not all of it – after reinjuring his knee last Thursday. Cutler reunites with HC Adam Gase, who guided the quarterback to his most efficient season while both were with the Chicago Bears in 2015. It’s good news for the fantasy fortunes of DeVante Parker and Kenny Stills as well, as Cutler has a strong arm. Cutler figures to be little more than an uninspiring QB2 in fantasy this season, however.

No structural damage for Ryan Tannehill

InjuryMore evaluation needed, per source

No significant damage found in Ryan Tannehill’s knee from initial MRI but further evaluation needed, source says. Situation still uncertain. (The Washington Post – Mark Maske)

Nerdy Football Analysis: In other words, Tannehill is not out of the woods yet, although “no structural damage” is almost always a good thing. Matt Moore showed late last season he can capably run the team if necessary and would start if Tannehill is forced to miss regular-season action.
