Fantasy Football, NFL News

Kerwynn Williams is the No.2 running back

Cardinals released veteran RB Chris Johnson, per source. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

Nerdy Football Analysis: Johnson lacked explosiveness in camp and was plagued by fumbling issues during pre-season games. Kerwynn Williams, Andre Ellington and Elijaah Penny are next up on the depth chart behind do-everything David Johnson.

Chad Henne returns to backup role

Doug Marrone has named Blake Bortles starting QB for Jaguars’ regular season opener against Houston on September 10. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

Nerdy Football Analysis: After being demoted for the all important third pre-season game, the Jags have elected to go with the uninspiring Bortles over the mediocre Chad Henne at quarterback for Week 1. Perhaps the mini-benching will light a flame under Bortles who has looked awful this pre-season. Bortles is back to being draftable in 2-QBs leagues but its a situation fantasy owners will want to avoid.

Ryan Tannehill placed on IR

InjuryACL surgery expected soon

Dolphins officially placed quarterback Ryan Tannehill on injured reserve. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

Nerdy Football Analysis: Tannehill is expected to have surgery on his ACL very soon which should allow him enough recovery time to be ready for the 2018 season. Jay Cutler takes over with a clear path to being the starter the entire season. His fantasy value is similar to Tannehill’s as a low-end QB2.

Jets place WR Quincy Enunwa on injured reserve

InjuryNeck injury

Big loss: Jets are placing WR Quincy Enunwa on injured reserve with a neck injury, per source. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

Nerdy Football Analysis: Ooof. As if the Jets could get any worse, they lose what might be their best receiver and a player they were counting on to be in the starting lineup Week 1. For now, Robby Anderson is the only recognizable name(?) in the receiving group. As much as they might not want to, the Jets are likely to add a free agent receiver shortly.

Bills ready to sign WR Anquan Bodin

Fantasy Football, NFL News
August 7, 2017

One-year deal

Bills are giving WR Anquan Boldin a one-year, $2.75 million deal, that includes $1.25 million in incentives, per source. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

Nerdy Football Analysis: The Bills needed an other veteran receiving option and they found their man. Boldin will likely start opposite Sammy Watkins and should give the offense a stable presence. His signing dings the fantasy value of rookie WR Zay Jones but won’t drain any targets from Watkins. Buffalo remains a run-first offense so Boldin should be viewed as a TD-dependent WR4.
