Victor Cruz receives PRP injection

InjuryNo timetable for return

Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz had a platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection Thursday in his injured left calf. PRP is supposed to promote healing in the affected area. The procedure occurred at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. “Hopefully it’s able to make me feel better, and hopefully advance the recovery process in any way, shape, or form,” Cruz said. Cruz aggravated a calf strain Wednesday in his first practice back. He lasted three plays after originally hurting the calf last month, admittedly a result of overcompensation following a serious knee injury he suffered last year. The MRI showed that the most recent aggravation of the calf isn’t anywhere near as severe as the original injury, according to Cruz. He has yet to appear in a game, preseason or regular season. There remains no timetable for his return, but it does not appear it’s on the horizon. Cruz will shut it down at least through this weekend as a result of the procedure. He will be evaluated Monday before a plan is devised. (NJ.com)

Nerdy Football Analysis: Cruz probably doesn’t even deserve a bench spot at this point. He appears to be a ways away from returning, and Rueben Randle has shown that he is a more than capable WR2 for the Giants.
