Teddy Bridgewater, Stefon Diggs, Mike Wallace Post-Week 7 Fantasy Advice

The Minnesota Vikings continue to be one of the league’s pleasant surprises, now sitting at 4-2 after a 28-19 win over the Detroit Lions at Ford Field on Sunday.

The Vikings started off slow, falling behind 14-3 in the first quarter, but Teddy Bridgewater continues to evolve into one of the league’s best young quarterbacks and is developing a nice connection with rookie receiver Stefon Diggs.

Here’s how the two young stars, as well as Mike Wallace, looked in Detroit tonight:

Teddy Bridgewater

Bridgewater had his best game of the season Sunday. He eclipsed the 300-yard mark for the first time in 2015 and threw for two touchdowns. More importantly, the second-year quarterback didn’t turn the ball over.

Head coach Mike Zimmer has created a balanced offensive attack for the Vikings. No longer is Minnesota a run-first team. When Bridgewater is accurate, like he was Sunday, completing 25 of 35 passes, the Vikings are a dangerous team, and ESPN.com’s Ben Goessling seems to agree.

“Bridgewater made the safe throws for much of the day, gave his receivers room to run and didn’t turn the ball over,” he said. “More often than not, that’s going to be enough for the Vikings to win.”

Adrian Peterson carried the ball 19 times for 98 yards. Those are good numbers, but any time the Vikings can get better offensive production from someone else, that’s a good day for Minnesota.

If Bridgewater continues to produce like he did Sunday, he could be a good fantasy quarterback later in the year.

Stefon Diggs

Perhaps no player has made as big of an impact over the last month as the rookie receiver from Maryland.

Since being inserted into the starting lineup in Week 4 against the Denver Broncos, Diggs has become Bridgewater’s No. 1 target because of Wallace’s struggles. Diggs caught six passes for 108 yards and his first career receiving touchdown Sunday.

It’s the second straight week in which Diggs has gone over the century mark in receiving yards, and he has caught 13 passes for 237 yards in his last two games. If you include the Week 4 game against Denver, the rookie has 19 catches for 324 yards.

Even Diggs understands the chemistry he and Bridgewater are developing, per Matt Vensel of the Minneapolis Star Tribune:

I wouldn’t say it’s coming easy. It’s a lot of preparation during the week with your guys. I don’t take any of the credit because it’s a collective thing. Playing receiver, you rely on a lot of other people and they rely on you. I just try to go out there and do what I can for my guys, have a good time, have fun and play at a high level.

Diggs continues to be a top waiver-wire pickup, but it’ll be interesting to see how he reacts when defenses key in on him in coverage.

So far, so good.

Mike Wallace

It appeared that Wallace was on his way to being a consistent threat in Minnesota’s passing game. After an eight-catch, 83-yard performance against Denver, Wallace came back down to earth two weeks later against the Kansas City Chiefs with only two catches for 23 yards.

On a day when Diggs was the star, Wallace was quiet again with only four catches for 36 yards against the Lions.

It’s hard to be mad if you’re winning, so Wallace might not be thinking about his lack of production, especially since he thinks Diggs is just like Antonio Brown, per Vensel:

You can tell from Day One who can play football or not. They have some exceptions where guys get better drastically over time. But for the most part, you can tell from Day One, can he play or can he not play? And I always felt like he could from Day One. … Just the skill set, the way he runs his routes, the energy that he has. It reminds me of him.

Minnesota brought Wallace to the team to be a big-time weapon in the passing game, but he’s been too inconsistent through six games to think of him as anything more than a role player.

Wallace shouldn’t be a starting receiver in your fantasy league while Diggs is the star receiver for the Vikings.
