InjuryHopeful to play on Sunday versus Bengals

PITTSBURGH (AP) – Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Markus Wheaton is optimistic his sprained shoulder will be good to go in time for Sunday’s home opener against Cincinnati. Wheaton practiced Wednesday with an eye toward rejoining Pittsburgh’s electric offense for an early-season showdown with the Bengals.

Nerdy Football Analysis: If Markus Wheaton does return for Week 2 it could create uncertainty in the fantasy projections for Pittsburgh’s wideouts behind Antonio Brown. Prior to his shoulder injury, Wheaton was expected to contribute in 2016 as the starter opposite of Brown. Eli Rogers’ will still be used out of the slot but Sammie Coates may see fewer reps against the Bengals if Wheaton is cleared for action.
