Arians wants Ellington to be tougher runner

Arians: Andre Ellington is back to being a RB. challenge for him is running tougher, not going down as easy. (Kent Somers on Twitter)

Nerdy Football Analysis: Ellington was declared a wide receiver earlier this off-season but that experiment didn’t last long. The Cardinals don’t currently have a true backup behind David Johnson although reports suggest the team is still in touch with Chris Johnson. Even so, Ellington’s fantasy value remains minimal at this point.

Jets will trade or release him this week

And now the Jets are parting ways with WR Eric Decker, sources tell ESPN. Have told WR they either will release or trade him this week. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

Nerdy Football Analysis: The free agent wide receiver market has certainly picked up some steam the last couple days. First Jeremy Maclin was released by the Chiefs on Friday and not it appears Decker will be on the move. The Jets will save $5.75 million against the cap. Decker is coming off a torn rotator cuff. His landing spot later this week will determine his fantasy value.

Chiefs save $10 million in cap space

The move, which came after the Chiefs wrapped up the second week of voluntary workouts, saves the Chiefs $10 million in cap space because Jeremy Maclin was cut after June 1; they had just $3.5 million available before. (ESPN)

Nerdy Football Analysis: Maclin is still just 29 years old and becomes a viable option for any WR-needy team. It’s on odd move on the field considering the Chiefs have few veteran weapons at wide receiver. Tyreek Hill, Chris Conley and Albert Wilson make up the top three spots on depth chart.

InjuryRavens TE suffers another hip injury

Ravens tight end Dennis Pitta reinjured his hip during Friday’s organized team activities and is undergoing tests to determine the severity of the injury, the team announced. Friday’s OTAs were not open to reporters. According to the team website, Pitta stretched for a catch, fell to the turf and couldn’t put weight on his leg as he tried to get up. (Baltimore Sun)

Nerdy Football Analysis: Pitta inured his hip twice before and missed the entire 2015 season as a result. He led all tight ends in 2016 with 86 receptions. The Ravens have a number of bodies at tight end but most are dealing with injuries including Ben Watson (Achilles)and Maxx Williams (ACL). Free agent Gary Barnidge could be Ozzie Newsome’s radar.

InjuryLigament damage in thumb

The Bears will be without Cameron Meredith for the remainder of organized team activities as well as the team’s mandatory mini-camp later this month after the third-year receiver suffered ligament damage in one of his thumbs during Thursday’s practice. (Chicago Tribune)

Nerdy Football Analysis: Surgery has not been ruled out as of now. With a recovery time of 6-8 weeks, Meredith is in danger of missing the early portions of training camp. It’s a setback for the starting receiver who projects to be the Bears best option in the passing game in 2017.
