K. Benjamin hoping for 35 snaps in Week 1

Conditioning still an issue for WR coming off 2015 ACL tear

HC Ron Rivera says Panthers are still looking for about 35 snaps from Kelvin Benjamin in the opener. (Max Henson on Twitter)

Nerdy Football Analysis: Benjamin has red flags going up all over the place, yet owners are consistently taking him in the third round of drafts. There has been much speculation Carolina will spread the wealth in the passing game this year and it is easy to forget how much of his 2014 production came in garbage time for a much different Panthers’ team. Benjamin isn’t even guaranteed a prominent Week 1 role and Devin Funchess is beginning to emerge as well. Let another owner take the chance on him as a WR2.

Arian Foster claims running back job

InjuryEasily beat out Jay Ajayi despite signing in mid-July

The same goes for Arian Foster, who beat out Jay Ajayi for the starting running back job. The Dolphins telegraphed their thinking on this matter a month ago, when coaches were hopeful Foster would emerge as the top option. (Miami Herald)

Nerdy Football Analysis: Ajayi got the starts in the preseason, but there was no suspense to be found here. The bigger mystery is whether or not the 30-year-old Foster can turn back the clock and give his new team more than half a season, especially considering the fact he is coming off an Achilles’ injury. He should be considered a low-end RB2 given his three-down role, but a low-upside one at that. Few players are bigger injury risks and Miami’s offensive line doesn’t look any better than it has in recent years.

Mariota: Tajae Sharpe "makes it easy"

Fifth-round pick continuing to draw praise

Fifth-round pick WR Tajae Sharpe moved into a starting receiver role during OTAs and has not looked back. QB Marcus Mariota trusts him because he quickly learned that Sharpe is exceptionally precise on his routes. “He makes it easy,” Mariota said of Sharpe. “He is a very versatile athlete. He has done a lot for us already and he gets great separation in and out of his routes. We are going to continue to expect these things out of him.” (ESPN)

Nerdy Football Analysis: Sharpe caught nine of 12 targets for 163 yards through the first three preseason games, leading the team in catches, yards and average. His ADP in PPR formats has obviously skyrocketed over the last month, but his tape backs up what Mariota says about his route-running. Owners should draft him as a WR4, but they should be able to get WR3 production or better out of him more often than not in 2016.

Justin Forsett agrees to resign with Ravens

Move to become official on Tuesday

RB Justin Forsett has agreed to re-sign w/Ravens. Move to become official prior to their start of practice Tues (Jason LaCanfora on Twitter)

Nerdy Football Analysis: The Ravens cut the veteran RB on Sunday after being the No.1 running back most of the off-season. This move brings into question just how big of a role Forsett will have in the offense and makes the situation a jumbled mess for fantasy owners. Terrance West, Forsett and Javorius Allen are all likely to see action in Week 1.

Carson Wentz to start Week 1

Rookie QB gets nod over Daniel

Nerdy Football Analysis: The rookie quarterback will get the nod over Chase Daniel in Week 1. The Eagles host the Browns this week, so it’s not out of the question Wentz could have some sneaky QB2 fantasy value, but with plenty of options at the position, there’s no reason to run the rookie out in redraft or daily leagues.
