Nick Foles buys his freedom for $2 million

Eagles could franchise the backup QB for $25 million

Sources: #Eagles QB Nick Foles is, in fact, buying back his freedom for $2M, voiding the new and final year of his contract. Now, he’s a free agent… unless Philly hits him with the roughly $25M franchise tag. (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)

Nerdy Football Analysis: The Eagles picked up the $20 million option on Nick Foles earlier in the day but that was just a formality as Foles was able to opt out of the deal for $2 million. The Eagles could use the franchise tag on the backup QB in hopes of trading him but the likelihood of that happening is slim. Given the leagues’ thirst for quarterbacks, Foles should land a starting gig with another team in 2019.
