Lions settle on Darrell Bevell to run offense

Served as Seahawks’ OC from 2011-17

The Detroit Lions announced today that they have hired Darrell Bevell as the team’s offensive coordinator. Bevell comes to Detroit after most recently spending seven seasons (2011-17) with the Seattle Seahawks as the club’s offensive coordinator. (detroitlions.com)

Nerdy Football Analysis: Former OC Jim Bob Cooter was a holdover from the previous staff, so he was always likely to be considered expendable if the offense failed to perform well in 2018. In theory, Bevell will fulfill Patricia’s edict to run the ball more often, although the former Seahawks’ play-caller also got accused of calling too many passing plays toward the end of his time in Seattle. If Bevell does commit again to the ground game, Kerryon Johnson figures to benefit the most from his hire.
