Jay Cutler, Alshon Jeffery, Martellus Bennett Post-Week 9 Fantasy Advice

The Chicago Bears passing attack was out in full force Monday in a 22-19 victory against the San Diego Chargers.

Jay Cutler proved even a quarterback on a 3-5 team can put up decent fantasy numbers.

San Diego was only allowing 238 passing yards per game entering the matchup, and Cutler went well over that mark with his best game of the season. However, don’t rush to put him in your starting lineup yet.

While he can put up yards and touchdowns, he doesn’t shy away from turnovers, either. His interception Monday put him in dubious territory, per SportsCenter:

To make matter worse, his next three games are against teams with stout pass defenses. The St. Louis Rams have allowed only five passing touchdowns this season—the fewest in the NFL—while the Denver Broncos have given up seven, and the Green Bay Packers have surrendered only 10.

Cutler has not thrown more than two touchdowns in a game this year and most likely won’t do so in the next three weeks. He is worth a roster spot, but start him only in an emergency situation.

Alshon Jeffery is one of the most athletic, talented wide receivers in the NFL. Monday was just his fourth game of the season (hamstring), but he’s seen at least 11 targets in every game.

He has also broken the 100-yard mark in three of those contests and scored twice. In other words, start him. Yes, his quarterback has been average, and he is going up against tough defenses in the coming weeks. But he hauls in more than eight passes per game.

Even if he doesn’t find the end zone, he can make an impact, as he did against the Chargers. As long as he is healthy, consider Jeffery a WR1, especially in points-per-reception leagues.

Martellus Bennett caught his third touchdown of the season Monday and at least deserves consideration as one of the better tight ends in the league.

He is not on the same level as Rob Gronkowski or Tyler Eifert, but his 45 receptions put him on pace for 90. That is fantasy gold for tight ends in PPR leagues.

His only issue is the same one Cutler and Jeffery are dealing with: The Rams allow just 5.6 fantasy points per game to tight ends, according to ESPN.com, and the Broncos are only a slightly better matchup, giving up 5.9 points per contest.

Tight end points are hard to come by, and Bennett can put them up. He is a bit of a risk based on the opponents, but if you don’t have a top-five tight end on your roster, plug him into your lineup.
