Knee injury
The Bucs announced they have placed RB Charles Sims on injured reserve with a knee injury. The team promoted rookie tailback Russell Hansbrough from the practice squad. Doug Martin has missed the last two weeks with a hamstring injury and was listed as doubtful to return this week. Sims suffered a knee injury in last week’s loss to the Denver Broncos. (NFL.com)
Nerdy Football Analysis: This one is a bit of a shocker, as there was absolutely no panic that Sims could be facing a serious enough injury to miss at least the next eight weeks. Jacquizz Rodgers, who will draw the start in Martin and Sims’ stead tonight against the Panthers, should immediately slide into Sims’ role as a complementary back when Martin returns. Rodgers is a steep downgrade from Sims, but at least he should be utilized in a “space role” that suits his game.
