Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton will not play Sunday against Atlanta and is expected to be shut down for the final two games as he continues to deal with a sore throwing shoulder, a league source confirmed to ESPN.

Panthers general manager Marty Hurney confirmed Wednesday that Newton will be inactive for Sunday’s game against the Falcons. Backup Taylor Heinicke will start and will be backed up by Kyle Allen. (ESPN)

Nerdy Football Analysis: Newton struggled Monday night and has been bothered by his shoulder injury since late October. With the Panthers out of the playoff hunt, it makes sense to rest him the remainder of the season. Heinicke will be making his first NFL start making him a risky but intriguing in DFS circles.
