Blake Bortles, Allen Hurns, Allen Robinson Post-Week 9 Fantasy Advice

The Jacksonville Jaguars continue to play competitive football each week, but they also continue to come up short.

The Jaguars lost for the fifth time in six games Sunday against the New York Jets, 28-23. Even though the Jaguars haven’t found the formula for winning, the numbers from a fantasy standpoint have been there, and Sunday was no different.

Let’s take a look at the performances of Blake Bortles and his two favorite targets.

Blake Bortles

The interceptions have been an issue for Bortles over the last month, but that was expected. There was no way Bortles was going to keep the turnover numbers down once he started throwing the ball more than 40 times per game.

Sunday marked the third time in the last five games that Bortles went over 40 pass attempts. In two of those contests, he had 50 attempts or more. That’s asking a lot from your second-year quarterback, but such is life in Jacksonville.

Bortles threw two more interceptions against the Jets, but if you take those away, he played well against the daunted New York defense. The 381 yards were a career high, and he added two touchdown passes while completing 60 percent of his throws.

If fantasy points had anything to do with real results, the Jaguars would be a better team based on Bortles’ production alone. He’s slowly creeping into QB1 status, but he’s not there yet. He is a weapon as a bye-week play, though, which could pay dividends as the season winds down.

By next year, Bortles should be a mid-round QB1 option. He’s having an impressive sophomore season. Don’t let the overall complexion of the Jaguars fool you. Bortles is good.

Allen Hurns

Allen Hurns is one of those rare commodities that you’re not sure what to expect of from week to week.

He’s capable of being a reliable flex option. He scored a touchdown for the sixth straight game Sunday and eclipsed the 100-yard mark for the third time this year. The only issue with Hurns is that he’s not a WR1 or WR2 option.

If you can get past that and find a spot for him as a flex receiver in your lineup, Hurns could be an X-factor over the next few weeks.

His touchdown streak shows that he’s reliable in the passing game. If you’re looking for another receiver to give you some yards and touchdowns in a hurry, Hurns may be the kind of player on the waiver wire who will help your roster.

Hurns is on pace to best his rookie numbers in receiving yardage, needing only 42 more to match the 677 yards he picked up last year. He also needs 15 more catches to set a new career high in receptions.

As a guy who’s on pace to surpass 1,000 yards in Jacksonville, Hurns qualifies as a great option.

Allen Robinson

Speaking of second-year receivers who are on pace to eclipse the 1,000-yard mark, Allen Robinson is putting together a nice second season in Jacksonville as well.

Although Robinson didn’t have a touchdown Sunday, he continues to be Bortles’ most reliable target in the passing game. Robinson has now caught at least six passes in the last four games and eclipsed the century mark for the second time Sunday.

He continues to inch toward the top 10 in receiving yards and is developing nice chemistry with Bortles, which is something to keep an eye on.

The former Penn State star is Bortles’ top target. The addition of Julius Thomas was supposed to take away targets from Robinson, but with Thomas hurt, Robinson has made the most of his opportunities.

He’s on the cusp of the WR2 level but still a valuable flex option. If he can put together a string of games at the end of the year, Robinson may be in the conversation as a mid- to late-round WR2 option with the chance to hit WR1 status next year.

The future is bright for all three of these Jaguars.
